Das Ship Inn Pub in Porlock (Exmoor)
Porlock is a very pleasant village with a population of just under 1,500, situated in Exmoor on the Bristol Channel. It lies not far from Minehead and the charming hamlet of Selworthy. The village accesses the sea via ‘Porlock Weir‘, its harbor located just under 1.5 miles away.
For a place of its size, it boasts several really good establishments—the two pubs alone are worth mentioning “Ship Inn” (ancient) and “The Castle” (very good and reasonably priced, plus a very nice seating area with sofas and bookshelves) as well as the “Lapswood Restaurant” (excellent cuisine, open only in the evening), or the Restaurant of the Lorna Doome Hotel. Of course, two tea rooms are a must.
Beyond that, the town is simply charming, with its small high street and lovely church; for the team behind “suedenglandreisen.com,” it ranks among their absolute favorites—unspectacular though it may actually be.
