Mousehole with its Harbour
Mousehole (pronounced “Mousel”) is a seaside town near Penzance in Cornwall with just under 850 inhabitants. Located not far from St. Michael’s Mount on the southwestern tip of southern England, it’s quite a tourist hotspot, but incredibly lovely and worth seeing. Mousehole is considered as one of Britain’s most beautiful fishing villages.
The construction of the southern harbour wall began as far back as 400 BC (!), and to this day the harbour can still be closed with powerful wooden gates and protected from the winter storms. In summer, on the other hand, you are spoilt by a mild, almost subtropical climate. (Albeit without very high temperatures.) It’s no wonder that a lush floral splendour thrives in this environment. Not far away are the magnificent Trengwainton Gardens.
Note: An early morning visit at sunrise is particularly beautiful, when the early morning sun shines a very warm and friendly light on the granite and slate houses as the village slowly awakens.
