Gloucester – Old Dockside Warehouses in 2015

Gloucester is the capital of the county of Gloucestershire. It is now far inland, but is connected to the Bristol Channel via the River Severn and thus to the Atlantic Ocean. Supported by the Severn Canal, even seagoing ships were able to reach the city, which thus grew into an important commercial center. Today, commercial shipping no longer plays a role for the city, but the area of old docks and warehouses still exists today. In recent years, an important transformation process has begun here: many of the old warehouses have been renovated and filled with new life. The docks became a marina and other harbour areas became the “Gloucester Quays“, a young urban scene area with cinema, shopping and plenty of gastronomy. However, during a visit in 2015, some old and unsanctioned areas of the old port of Gloucester were preserved, as the pictures on this page bear witness to.
